Chairman, Oyo State Waste Management Taskforce, Mrs Adedayo Aderonke, said this last week after a visit to the dumpsite.

She said that, after the Oyo State Government discovered the illegal dumpsite created by a manufacturing company in Oluyole Estate, Sumal Foods Ltd., at the detriment of other residents in the area, it swung into action.

Adedayo, who visited the dumpsite with other members of the Taskforce and management team of Mottainai Recycling, said the dumpsite was filled with industrial and commercial wastes.

The Taskforce boss asserted that necessary legal actions would be taken against the manufacturing company.

“The dumpsite has domestic wastes, commercial wastes and all sorts of things smelling on the land,” she said.

She said after sealing of the dumpsite, which sits on about 10 acres of land, the State Government would serve an abatement notice on the erring company.

Also speaking, a member of the Taskforce, Mr. Adekola Ayoade, said the offending company has contravened the land acquisition laws of Oyo State.

He added that the right of the company on the usage of the land would be revoked by the Ministry of Lands and Housing.

“The Ministry of Lands cannot give this place out as a dumpsite. Therefore, it is an illegal creation by Sumal,” he said.

The Managing Director, Mottainai Recycling, Mr. Adey Adewuyi, who spoke through the Chief Sustainability Officer, Deborah Fadeyi, enjoined residents and manufacturing companies to embrace Oyo State Government’s waste management policies for a healthy environment.
