Mrs. Odusote spoke on Monday, May 20, 2019 while hosting a delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN), at her office in Abuja.

The FAO’s team was led by the Country Representative in Nigeria, Mr. Suffyan Koroma.

The Permanent Secretary pointed out that Nigeria is immensely endowed with uncommon human and natural resources, compared to other countries of the world.

She however maintained that receiving technical supports from intervention and development-focused agencies like FAO would greatly help to harness the exotic resources domiciled in the country, in a way that will promote sustainable environmental development.

“We at the Ministry of Environment are more than ready to partner and work with FAO. Nigeria, as a nation, stands to benefit and also gain a lot from the technical assistance(s) you may wish to offer us in various aspects or ways. Specifically, the Environment Ministry is always receptive to innovative ideas and mutually beneficial partnerships. As such, I wish to inform you that our doors are open to welcome the extraordinary policy-ideas, conceived projects and development programmes you may wish to avail and provide us,” she said.

Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Koroma stated that their mission was to familiarise and intimate the ministry on programmes and projects of mutual interest and areas where FAO is already providing support services to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

He revealed that Food and Agriculture Organisation is providing support to the government in the development of sub-national forest reference emission level, development of sub-national forestry monitoring system action plan, and building of the capacity of government officials in the use of modern laser equipment national forest inventory, among others.

The FAO Country Representative pledged the continued support of the organisation to the ministry.
