In keeping with the trend of featuring expert contributions amid unfolding developments, the online environment and development-focused news magazine is bringing another climate change expert into the fray. He is Prof. Chukwumerije Okereke.

An IPCC author and Professor of Environment Development at the University of Reading in the UK, Professor Okereke is an IPCC veteran and has served as Lead Author on IPCC Fifth Assessment Cycle (AR5) and the IPCC Special Report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission pathways, in the context of strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change, sustainable development, and efforts to eradicate poverty.

A member of the Working Group III contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), he is the Coordinating Lead Author of Chapter 1 of the Report which deals with Introduction and Framing the key methods and drivers for climate mitigation.

Currently Research Associate (Centre for International Studies (CIS), University of Oxford, UK), and Senior Visiting Fellow (Environmental Change Institute (ECI), School of Geography, University of Oxford), he was also Lead Author, Cities and Biodiversity Outlook (CBO): A Global Assessment – a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) initiative, “Chapter on Africa”, as well as Lead Author, Strengthening Africa’s Influence in Global Climate Negotiations (Work Programme commissioned by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa).

He served as Chairman, Special Technical Working Group on ‘Greening Nigerian Economy through Impact Investment’, Commissioned by Nigerian Pension Commission, and Member, United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) project.

In 2015, ahead of the then much-anticipated 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in December in Paris where history was made as countries agreed to a new climate plan, Prof. Emmanuel Oladipo of the University of Lagos, Akoka, wrote a series of informative articles on EnviroNews.

Similarly, climate change negotiator and sustainable development expert, Prince Lekan Fadina, wrote for EnviroNews.
